You
don't have to be a professional archaeologist to be a member
of the San Luis Valley Archaeological Network-- Just someone
with an interest in learning about our area's past. The San
Luis Valley Archaeogical Network has members who started out
with no more than curiosity.
|
|
|
Whether your interest is in historic archaeology or PaleoIndian
archaeology or somewhere in between, you can become involved in
various research projects in the San Luis Valley. Our members have
worked beside Smithsonian
archaeologists at the Black
Mountain Folsom site, located some 25 miles southwest of Creede,
CO, and at the Stewart's Cattle Guard site, near the Great
Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve.
|
|
In
the Network, you'll learn field techniques and methods of
archaeology from professionals and experienced avocationals.
You can discover the prehistoric inhabitants of the San Luis
Valley and what they left behind: rock art, campsites and
villages, projectile points and stone tools. You can retrace
the path of the Old
Spanish Trail, a trail system connecting Santa Fe, NM,
with Los Angeles, CA.

program, twice a year.
|
|
As a member, you will receive the San
Luis Valley Archaeo-Update, a bi-monthly newsletter,
which will keep you updated on tours, research projects and other
Network activities.
